LMDE5 with 340 supported drivers?

Post by hd66 »

just trying to nvidia-detect on a laptop, what happens :

Checking card: NVIDIA Corporation GT218M [NVS 3100M] (rev a2)
"Your card is only supported by the 340 legacy drivers series, which is only available up to buster."
have a look on the web, then :

Damn right it's disappointing like you I've spent major time trying to get the Nvidia proprietary driver to work.

Don't know who to hold at fault on this.
I'm leaning towards the developers.
The moral of the story is: "don't buy Nvidia"
==> people buy a computer regarding main perfs and especially the price, not the graphic gpu manufacturer ;)

Yep you can only run it with nouveau on LMDE5. Buster itself is LTS status and supported until June 30th, 2024.

It is currently maintained by the Debian LTS Team and not handled by the Debian Security team. LTS Team are a separate group of volunteers and companies interested in making it a success.

That does not mean LMDE4 is also supported still but you can run Vanilla Debian Buster Cinnamon, MATE or XFCE still by all means with support for the nvidia 340 driver.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.
