Nvidia 390.154 Driver Support Ends at the End of 2022

Post by Joe2Shoe »

So, my 10-year old Sony Vaio laptop has the Nvidia GeForce 410M GPU 1GB-RAM, which is supported by the 390.x series drivers up to the end of 2022.
Running LMDE5 Bullseye 11 64-bit, 16GB DDR3 RAM, Crucial MX500 1TB SSD, Broadcom 2.4GHz/5GHz WiFi.

Maybe I should sell this laptop to a Windows user?
Or use nouveau drivers?
What to do? What to do?

I'd just keep using it. The practical real-life security risk of running a graphical driver that no longer gets security updates, is probably very low.

The big risks are elsewhere in your system. Web browsers and email clients, that sort of thing. No compromises on those applications.

Pjotr,
Thank you for the reply.
I bought it new, so I guess I'll keep it around.
Take care.

Wise. I said "very low" about the real-life security risk, but "close to nonexistent" is probably an even more accurate description.

Pjotr,
I'm down to only 2 laptops now, as I sold the other 4. I have to have a backup laptop.
My next one will be an older ThinkPad.

It's snowing at 8,500 feet high here. Let the winter begin. It will be a mess here until the end of April 2023.
Take care.

Sounds adventurous to live where you live.... Much more boring over here.

I'm hoping for a relatively warm winter, because energy prices have skyrocketed. Anyway, we'll have to deal with the situation. It is what it is.
