SOLVED LM20.3 unable to connect to LMDE5 shared folder

Post by Makarios »

Hi I'm trying to resolve this issue.

I have LMDE5 installed on computer on my network, and a few LM20.3's and some win10's

My LMDE5 connect to the LM20.3 Shared folders on different computer with no issues, but not the other way..

LM20.3 does not want to authenticate on LMDE5

Win10 machines can also not connect to LMDE5 for same reason.

I can ping both ways no problem..

All the machines are connected on the same LAN.

I want to be able to connect from and to the LMDE5 machine from both LM20.3 and Win10 Machines

Any hesitance will be greatly appreciated

Re: LM20.3 unable to connect to LMDE5 shared folder

You have two shares on the LMDE machine:

A classic samba share:
[homes]
browseable = No
comment = Home Directories
create mask = 0700
directory mask = 0700
valid users = %S
And a usershare:
[SharedLMDE5]
path=/home/johann/Documents/SharedLMDE5
comment=
usershare_acl=Everyone:F,
guest_ok=n
Both of them require credentials to access.

Did you add your users to the samba password database?

For example:

Code: Select all

sudo smbpasswd -a johann
If you did can you access from your Win10 machine with a:

Code: Select all

\\elitebook.local\johann

So to sum up, If I wanted to use Nemo,

One need to install Samba,

Then set the shared folders, with Nemo

Then set the users to be a member of the sambashare group, with Nemo

Ans lastly in terminal, give the user a samba password with the command: sudo smbpasswd -a johann( or whatever username)...

Where would one find more documentation on the rules of browsing like this: \\elitebook.local\SharedLMDE5

Thanx a mil, Yes my issue has been resolved.
