[SOLVED] RTL8723DE problems

Post by Dinoni »

Hello Mint World!

I've recently installed Linux Mint on my HP Laptop 17-ca0xxx on whom I have Realtek RTL8723DE as device 2.

Is there any way to get WiFi running on that laptop? I've tried couple of methods including the one from KryptoBO, but it didn't help.

So can anyone help?

Thanks anyways :)

That doesn't work any more

Code: Select all

sudo apt install git dkms
git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
cd rtlwifi_new/
git checkout extended
git checkout 0a751e3
cd
sudo dkms add rtlwifi_new
sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6
echo "options rtl8723de ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723de.conf

Hello sleeper12,

I've tried it too. This is what I got when I run following command: "sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6" in Terminal I get this:

Kernel preparation unnecessary for this kernel. Skipping...

Building module:
cleaning build area....(bad exit status: 2)
make -j2 KERNELRELEASE=4.19.0-9-amd64 -C /lib/modules/4.19.0-9-amd64/build M=/var/lib/dkms/rtlwifi-new/0.6/build.................................................................................(bad exit status: 2)
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.19.0-9-amd64 (x86_64)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/rtlwifi-new/0.6/build/make.log for more information.

Do you know what is going on? I really appreciate all your help :)

...there's been various changes in lwfinger's repo in the last few weeks,
and you being under LMDE (Debian-based) complicates things further... :?
To keep it short, seems like you're affected by this.
(that lwfinger deprecated the whole -extended branch with his last commit there doesn't help either).

Open the makefile with a text editor (eg. Xed), and edit / replace at line 73 as follows:
TEMP=$(shell grep alloc /lib/modules/$(KVER)/source/include/net/mac80211.h | grep void | grep dentry)
Then continue with the compilation. Does that do the trick?
