[SOLVED] No WiFi during live session LMDE 5 with adapter AX210 intel

Post by guwrt »

Hello,

My main goal is to move toward LMDE5. This output is from my actual setup with Mint 20.3. Before writing this post, I have tried Mint 21.1 live on my desktop and the adapter was ok. Could be the kernel, I presume!

I am only able to use the ethernet port of my desktop. But Linux mint 21.1 live works perfectly. Something with the kernel, I presume!
Your title says you are having a problem with LMDE5, but then you posted output with Linux Mint 21.1 where you are not having a problem.

If you want help with your LMDE5 install, you should post the data from it. (And request your topic be moved to the LMDE forum.)

My main goal is to use LMDE5 on my my actual desktop. To do so, I have tried LMDE5 live before installing it. That's why I wrote this subject. Works ok with ethernet cable but not with the adapter AX210 wifi bluetooth.

The output of the inxi command concern my actual setup of my desktop that run with Mint 20.3 and not Mint 21.1. I just wanted to say that I have tested my actual desktop with Mint 21.1 before writing this post and wifi/BT were ok.

On LMDE forum, nothing appear with this issue and this wifi adapter.

I agree with you that I am probably on the wrong forum. I will move to it.

Thanks

LMDE5 uses the 5.10 kernel. Both your current install of Mint 20.3 and LM21.1 use the 5.15 kernel. If you need a newer kernel with LMDE5, you would need to backport it (if other options to get the driver you need do not exist).

You can not move it, but I can.

Edited to add: Topic moved to LMDE forum.

I found this topic on the Debian forum Issues with Intel AX210 6e Adapter | Debian 5.10.0-17 which might be a slightly different card than what you have.

I see the advice suggests using linux-image-amd64 from bullseye-backports. Here are directions for Installing a newer kernel on LMDE 5.

There is also advice to firmware-iwlwifi from bookworm.

I suggest taking a Timeshift snapshot before making any changes. It's possible that all you may need to do is run updates to the latest kernel version and not need the backports or firmware. You would have to install to find out.

Very interesting. Thanks

When I want to change toward a new distrib, I always use a a different HDD for testing. If everything going good during the test, I can proceed. Data backup and an image of my actual HDD must be done too before the migration.

I will experiment this procedure tomorrow on my dummy :)

Thanks again

Hello,

The suggestion to use linux-image-amd64 from bullseye-backports works for me :)

After a fresh install on my dummy, every things are ok. Wifi and BT are working.

Good to hear. Please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the title so others know you are no longer seeking help on this issue.
