Alternative Mint Icon/Logo

Post by robber » Sun Nov 15, 2009 12:29 am

Hi all you Mint-ers

I was a bit bored this weekend, so I decided to have a go in Photoshop at making an alternative logo. I used the Rothwell font, as that was the closest I could find to the actual font. It's a lot simpler than most other 'alternative' logos, but it is similar enough to the original logo that it is still easily enough recogniseable.
I've decided it looks best on a sort of carbon-fibery background. This is just a preliminary release to see if anyone likes it and if I should carry on refining it.

Attached is a .zip with both .psd and .png versions. Also attached is the .png

Good job!!

Simple. Easy on the eye. Good font and colour coordination. I like it.

Slightly altered the shape, moved the text, made the highlight more subtle and added a little stripe thingy for the 'vein' of the leaf. In the PSD you can see that the "mint" lettering is a see-thru cutout. Thanks vrkalak for the vote of confidence!

Any suggestions for a wallpaper/theme/improvements?
@vrkalak: It's a Photoshop file, so I'm not sure if the drop shadow filter will come through in GIMP.

That might look cool made into a round glass menu icon. Just an idea.

Like the original first one a lot. not sure how I can apply it as an icon other than using it as a desktop.

Uuaauum yeah, I'm not sure if in Mint you can change an individual icon, or just the whole set.
Thanks for the feedback!

I was just thinking about adding a white border and warping the shape a bit, and then I downloaded the new QuickPix 2009 from http://iconfactory.com - nooooo!
