http://linux-mint.froonix.org/dists/elsie/ appears to be getting updated nearly every day.

I'm hoping that this means the beta release won't be too far away...

current version of LMDE 4 is codename Debbie
have a look at http://linux-mint.froonix.org/dists/
I'm guessing that "elsie" folder might be reserved for the future LMDE 5 and will be used at some point in the future.

if so I would assume it is following the current Stable version automatically.
so, I don't think it is necessarily an indicator of Mint actively "working on the project" ... only a LMDE developer could know.

Debian (the current Stable version) does get security updates regularly. We (us Debian users) have been more that normal this last week or two.

best wishes

PS: I just noticed linux-mint.froonix.org » /dists/elsie/incoming/debian-installer ... to me that is a good sign.
in my opinion the Debian Installer is far superior to the versions crafted by Ubuntu as used by Linux Mint.

Elsie is the codename of LMDE 5.

The Elsie repositories contain the packages that Linux Mint adds on top of the Debian Bullseye package base. It does not mirror Debian repositories.

It only means LMDE 5 is being worked on. Until you see a LMDE 5 ISO being tested by the QA testing team on https://community.linuxmint.com/iso, the beta is not yet in sight. (And even then, it depends on the issues the QA testers find and may still take time till beta.)

My guess, before april.
Why? In april ubuntu 22.04 will be released. After that the Mint team starts working on Mint 21

Elsie is the codename of LMDE 5.
Elsie is also the program name of one of my ham radio filter simulations from Tonne software.
Tonne rf software is excellent for the ham community and mostly free for the hobby.
Just written for Windows though- and Wine is wonky with some

In terms of release we’re close to BETA. All the backports and packages are ready. The LMDE 5 ISO image boots and installs fine. There are no critical issues on the horizon.
Looks good

The result is a little bit underwhelming because it just looks and feels like Linux Mint 20.3. Under the surface though it features a Debian 11 base which software is more recent than Ubuntu 20.04 […]
I can echo that sentiment. Booting into it the first time is like -wait- did I boot LMDE5 or LM20.3? But that's a good thing, that you can't tell the difference between the two at first look.

Is there anyway to get the beta to explore and test?

No, there is no beta yet. I'm also on the development team and have had a chance to help to test ongoing work there. Beta comes after QA testing, which hasn't started yet.

Given that previous versions of LMDE offered a 32-bit option, I suspect LMDE 5 will do so also.
