LMDE3 upgrade broke my "various"

Post by axisofevil »

Did the upgrade from LMDE2 -> LMDE3

1. Couldn't boot without the kernel crashing.

Apparently
kernel: sp5100_tco : I/O address 0x0cd6 already in use
is a well known Debian fault in the kernel and affects several AMD motherboards.
I fixed it by blacklisting sp5100_tco (I don't what this does to anything).

2. Removing foreign packages broke my existing two kernels (3.15 & 3.16), so I've only got one left - 4.9.0-8-amd64.
I'd quite like to install Virtual Box - but I think this modifies my sole kernel - so I'm not going there!

3. A media player (mediatomb) still runs (after some reconfiguration) - but no longer appears to successfully serve media to my TV.

4. What's next?

BTW boot times are increased.
