Move from Stretch to Buster

Post by hwalinga » Tue Mar 12, 2019 12:09 pm

Now Buster has become Stable, I wonder if I can safely upgrade Cindy from Stretch to Buster. I found the following link:

https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-upgrade- ... -10-buster

I know a bit how stuff works under the hood, but I don't want to spend days trying to get this work.

So, what do you think? Completely possible; can be done, but tricky; or don't even try?

All three. If you want to spend your time on figuring it out, solving dependency issue and other issues that will pop up later, then go right ahead and it can probably be done. If you don't want to figure things out or solve issues, then don't do it. Eventually there will be an LMDE 4 you can upgrade to.

Eventually?

I'm actually extremely excited to see an LMDE 4 with all of the recent improvements with the new Debian release.

Any estimate on a release date?

Same question here, with Buster, I think I would like to try LMDE, and hopefully LMDE 4 will come soon.

@hwalinga

doesn't seem to have done any major damage atleast when following that guide, i used a clean lmde3 install though.

left everything at default when asked.

Code: Select all

Linux mintdebian 4.19.0-5-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.37-5 (2019-06-19) x86_64 GNU/Linux
really wanna go to sid release so that's what i'll do next, it's all done in a vm anyway so worth a shot i think.

I will second that. I think Clem and team should just ditch the Ubuntu-based version of Mint (something I have admittedly never used) and make LMDE the flagship product.
