The title was the question. I'm running LMDE4 Bullseye.

Why the use of such an old and deprecated kernel, I wonder?

Your wrongheaded pride will be your downfall...
The Mint team and user community I'm sure will appreciate your effort(s) for it sets another naive water mark to measure. While you feel yourself a rebel (noted in your question), you're simply another user of the Linux choosing a difficultly yet realized and completely unimpressive.
With so many distros to choose you fail to discern the compilation of the 'stable' and the brilliance Clem brings with the LMDE package. :?
With wisdom comes the adage; 'just because you can doesn't mean you should'.
Enjoy your system and thanks for sharing your endeavor!

A Frankenstein system is fun! To watch in someone else's hands, not to have one yourself.

Hm.
inxi still sees a Debian 10.2 Buster based system.

Code: Select all

System: Kernel: 5.10.0-5-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 10.2.1 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.8.6
tk: GTK 3.24.24 wm: muffin dm: LightDM Distro: LMDE 4 Debbie base: Debian 10.2 buster
Only in the repo list the newer Debian Bullseye repo has been added to the unchanged default repos, which LMDE 4 defines:

Code: Select all

No active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list
           Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/additional-repositories.list
1: deb http: //deb.debian.org/debian bullseye main contrib non-free

           Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list
           1: deb [arch=amd64] http: //dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main

           Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list
1: deb http: //packages.linuxmint.com debbie main upstream import backport
2: deb https: //deb.debian.org/debian/ buster main contrib non-free
           3: deb https: //deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-updates main contrib non-free
           4: deb http: //security.debian.org/ buster/updates main contrib non-free
           5: deb https: //deb.debian.org/debian/ buster-backports main contrib non-free
What the result of this half-hearted repos mix is going to be
+ the future will tell
+ depends on the priority figures assigned to Bullseye vs Buster under /etc/apt/preferences.d/

Whether at the moment, this is still a normal LMDE4 with a single Bullseye repo added only; or whether the process of frankensteinization has already started, I do not know. I do not care, either. We all know how the Frankenstein story ended.

This is nothing which can be handled by the Linux Mint forum police. This is a job for Van Helsing.

Certainly are.

Just post your name, address, bank account and phone again please.

We're flat out rounding others up at the moment but we'll get to you.

Eventually!
