Re: LMDE5
Nope. The statement was yours, the job to back it up is yours too. That's how these things work.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Re: LMDE5
There's a bit of pattern emerging here...
LMDE3 = Cindy
LMDE4 = Debbie
LMDE5 = Elsie
I'm betting on LMDE6 failing to meet that pattern.

Re: LMDE5
Good - Elsie ... when she's a little bigger, we can call her Elsa, like Elsa the Lioness.
But Alas!
After Uma Una? That's hard - very hard. Cinnuna --- pfhhh.

Re: LMDE5
Christmas is Linux Mint 20.3 stable. That means beta testing in December which usually takes about 2 weeks and a lot of work between now and then to get everything done. I very much doubt a LMDE 5 release will be done before or at the same time. But perhaps. I think it more likely it will be sometime early next year.
Re: LMDE5
Wonder if the early stages for GTK4 will start or if Clem will just stay with GTK3 for the long term as apparently the Gnome Devs are making life so difficult for customization that it's more akin to hacking?
Developer Joshua Strobl no longer has confidence in the Budgie desktop using GTK and wants to move to something else.

Re: LMDE5
That's not in scope for LMDE 5, or something you need to think about. LMDE 5 is based on Debian 11 which has GNOME 3.38. That version is so old that it doesn't have GTK4.
LMDE 5 is about moving to the new Debian 11 package base and probably at same time getting the Linux Mint software developed for Linux Mint 20.3 also on LMDE.
The whole GTK4 discussion doesn't come into view until GNOME 42 at the earliest I think. That's planned for release about 6 months from now so it won't affect LMDE 5 and unlikely that it will affect Linux Mint 21. And GTK4 isn't the "issue", it's only programs that use GTK4 and libadwaita for which setting the theme will need to be done in a different way than before—so yes the theme can still be changed even for these. Anyway I just tried Fedora 35 beta which has GNOME 41 and of the 7 programs in its repository that use GTK4 only 3 also use libadwaita (from `sudo dnf repoquery --whatdepends libadwaita`): Gnome Todo (task planner app), Hydrapaper (wallpaper switcher app) and Notejot (notes app). Undoubtedly for GNOME 42 more core apps will be migrated to GTK4 (which is not a trivial task) but that doesn't mean they will also use lidadwaita. And again, that doesn't affect LMDE 5 development because it has a much older GNOME version.

From: https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=4149LMDE 5 Elsie
Work is set to start on the next version of LMDE which was given the codename “Elsie”. It will be based on Debian 11, ship with a Cinnamon desktop environment and support both amd64 and i386 architectures.
If you think the issue is solved, edit your original post and add the word solved to the title.

Re: LMDE5
No. Update packs were used on LMDE 1 but not on newer LMDE releases. It won't be coming back for LMDE 5. On LMDE 5 — like on LMDE 2, 3 and 4 — you'll get updates from Debian stable repositories directly. Software developed by Linux Mint gets updates on LMDE when they have a stable release.

Re: LMDE5
Awesome! I just installed LMDE4 after trying Debian 11 for two months. Debian is pretty good, but I just keep wanting the Mint polish. I'll make a donation to Mint after my paycheck gets in because I am hype as fhtagn!
Also, am I the only one that immediately thinks of The World Only God Knows when reading Elsie?
