like all things, in the LinuxMint System . .
it will be released when it's ready.
at the moment, any LMDE5 thoughts would be still in the Planning Stage.

Re: LMDE5
If history is any indication... look at how long it took to release LMDE 4 after Debian pushed their new release. Eight months? A year? I'd have to go back and look but I do remember that it wasn't quick.

Re: LMDE5
At least half a year.
Though it would be awesome to have it and then upgrade it to the 5.11 kernel to get proton/wine improvements (assuming that does not harm stability).
I am trying out Debian 11 Cinnamon now. Linux, including Debian with this release has almost completely caught up with Windows in every aspect so I would never use anything else anymore from here on out if it works out as I hope. Too bad Debian 11 needs Nokto theme for Cinnamon to look half decent and the themes still don't fully install properly.

Re: LMDE5
Debian 11 comes with Cinnamon 4.8 - presumably version 5.0 didn't make it in time?
So does this mean that LMDE5 will need to do a full Cinnamon upgrade, or will Debian apply this?

Re: LMDE5
I have been running Debian 11/Cinnamon for quite awhile now with great results.WriteF wrote: ⤴Mon Aug 16, 2021 12:23 pm I am trying out Debian 11 Cinnamon now. I am not really a fan of dark themes so never tried Nokto theme. Although I am running dark wallpaper at present.
Exactly what themes don't install properly? I haven't had any problems with any of the downloaded Cinnamon themes or any themes (or icons for that matter) from B00merang either,
I have replaced the default menu with the CinnVIIStarkMenu with very pleasing results. But looks are very individual so the look one person loves another hates.
Re: LMDE5
There is no information about LMDE 5 yet. An news about and plans for upcoming releases are published on the blog, in the monthly news: https://blog.linuxmint.com/. I get that if you're using LMDE you'd want to know but right now there's nothing to tell yet. Subscribe to the blog to keep up with the news; any word about LMDE 5 will be there first.
Re: LMDE5
Strange since it never worked for me with 10.10 either. Be it in a VM or on this system. Right now I don't really mind how it looks with Nokto. I wanted to get Mint-XP to work for my old typewriter thinkpad. It is a fair bit better than an XP-era Thinkpad, but I like to mess with the people around me
Here is the image where the title-bar (window-borders) are missing after adding Mint-XP
Pragmatic-Darker-Blue seems to work well but I don't get blue icons, and just now realised they might just not be included. But sometimes one of the options such as window-borders or icons is missing. It's a bit of a gamble really.

Re: LMDE5
Yep - I see what you mean, now that I have played with a few. I don't really like or use any of the Mint-X or Y themes. My go-to is Cinnamox for a more modern look and I use Winux 10 icons. I do like the retro Win XP/95/7 looks as well but for those I go with the B00merang themes an icons. Just for fun I tested the B00merang (they are zeros not the letter o if you are interested) Win XP themes and icons - everything shows up.WriteF wrote: ⤴Tue Aug 17, 2021 10:17 am Here is the image where the title-bar (window-borders) are missing after adding Mint-XP

A couple of tips if you do want to use B00merang:
1.) download Xarchiver to unzip the B00merang zip files - makes life easy
2.) be aware both the icons and the themes have the same zip file name which can be confusing when unzipping to the proper location - Icons to ~/.icons and themes to ~/.themes (you may have to create those folders in your home directory first)
3.) after you unzip there are seven XP themes folders within the Windows-XP-3.1 folder - you have to move the individual theme folders out of the Windows-XP-3.1 folder to use them.
If you really want an XP look B00merang is the way to go

Vanguard debian, because nothing's worse than doing nothing whimsically.

I am afraid you are confusing me with those who are derogatory about Mint based on Debian , I think these are the real trollers .
if this gives you any reassurance , you can rest assured that my posts will be removed if i am just trolling .

Re: LMDE5
I can't speak for Headpin11. However speaking for myself I have installed Debian 11 (minimum CD version with no apps ) with Cinnamon as my DE. I would rather have the latest Debian (I do ) with the latest Cinnamon (I don't) AND not Ubuntu (I don't) - that would be ideal but 2 out of 3 is an acceptable compromise. I would also like LMDE to be a minimalist Mint (like a Cinnamon --install-no-recommennds version at least) but that ain't happening. I can deal with the bloat on my own although I rather go the other way and add the bloat that I want rather than going through the tedious exercise of removing the bloat I don't want. I get it though - linux distros have to appeal to the lowest common denominator of "power on > point and click"
Re: LMDE5
I really like LMDE, from the old times of the rolling distribution.
I would like it to appear more quickly, as MX LInux, Sparky Linux or Siduction do with the new Debian releases. They all have Debian 11. If Mint would adopt that policy, it would be much better than those distributions, because of Cinnamon, because of it elegance, and because of other very valuable extras.
I really don't like Ubuntu very much. Way more unstable. I dream that one day LMDE will be the Mint flagship.

Re: LMDE5
it's my dream too! but I don't think it will. Mint has a reputation as a distro suitable for beginners and / or for those coming from windows. and these users want up-to-date software and the latest news as soon as possible, but we know this is not going to happen with debian.
Re: LMDE5
I imagine it would take a bit longer since new features from (the Ubuntu based) standard Linux Mint will have to be implemented all over again. I don't think all of them are included in the Cinnamon DE. Stuff such as the backup tools and new file search feature. It doesn't help that unlike those other distros LMDE is not a priority.filozofio wrote: ⤴Fri Sep 10, 2021 10:54 am I really like LMDE, from the old times of the rolling distribution.

But only a month has passed and if LMDE has feature parity with current Mint, it will definitely be worth wait.
Let's be honest. Ubuntu does not much new anyway. Most of the improvements there came from newer kernel versions. Since they are no longer that concerned with desktop use, it would actually kind of make sense. Mint could make in between versions with newer packages and/or kernel versions where it makes sense and ensure it is stable enough. Ubuntu is just losing more and more recognition as time goes on.ne0h wrote: ⤴Fri Sep 10, 2021 12:45 pm it's my dream too! but I don't think it will. Re: LMDE5
but I don't think so. Ubuntu is ultimately the most used distro in the world. and many choose it. even on the cloud it is very strong! and is chosen for its reliability. especially in the LTS versions where in the cloud it is the most widespread. Not to mention other entities, common in the world that choose it. also the French gendarmerie.
