Great Work - LMDE5 Elsie Cinnamon Edition
Just installed LMDE 5, Elsie, over my LM 20.3 install on my 2013 MacMini and it's working great. I find it's a lot faster, snappier. Quite pleased. I didn't encounter any issues with the installation process either. Happy days.

Yep installed and works well OOTB I like it.

Still no Wayland, eh?
Re: Great Work - LMDE5 Elsie Cinnamon Edition
Yeah that's a bummer.
I'm using Wayland on Ubuntu 20.04.4 and it works well.
I wonder if Wayland works with Cinnamon DE.
I'm guessing it would being Cinnamon is a Gnome DE.
I may have no clue what I'm talking about though.

In what way(s) is Wayland better than X?
Re: Great Work - LMDE5 Elsie Cinnamon Edition
I don't know although my computer using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS seems a bit faster since using Wayland.

Amazing distro.
The Mint team did a great job.

Re: Great Work - LMDE5 Elsie Cinnamon Edition
LMDE5 performs incredibly well. I'm actually impressed. Far better than Ubuntu (LTS or other) for that matter. No doubt every Mint variant performs better than Ubuntu's main flavour of Gnome desktop with Wayland session or without.
Now Cinnamon DE does not support Wayland and I'm not aware of any effort to support in in the near future. Wayland is a neater and more modern framework than X11, still takes some tweaking to deal with compatibility issues. It is the future but not required to accomplish any specific task that I know of at the present.

Re: Great Work - LMDE5 Elsie Cinnamon Edition
It's pretty much a clean slate since there is a lot of cruft with how long X has been around. I think it is meant to help with implementing newer functions and supporting higher-spec hardware. Problems with multimonitor-support, multiple-resolution-support, scaling and screentearing are still FAR to common in Linux.
I think Wayland has better integration with Wine/Proton or the Vulkan API too. But I don't remember the details. Matters only to gamers anyway and there is a compatibility layer or tool called XWayland to deal with the transition anyway.
Benkyou taimu!
