RE RE-SOLVED: Unable to Reboot/Restart PC

Post by fat_beard »

EDIT: Ok, issue's started to happen again, just random shut downs and or blank screens or freezing and then not being able to restart or power on and off. So I determined it was possibly a hardware issue. I took out all my HDD's and the RAM, made sure everything was clean/dusted. I then put in a known good blank HDD and one stick of RAM out of four. I had my LMDE 5 ISO ready and issue's still occurred. So I thought to do the old hardware check on the RAM one stick at a time. Sure enough I had TWO bad RAM sticks that were in SLOT 1 and SLOT 2 originally. I am now using the RAM sticks that were in SLOT 3 and 4 and it has been a week. So far so good, all HDD's working as normal, did not clean wipe either. So at least it was something way more simple. Now I'm down to two sticks of RAM but I really never needed all 16GB. Now I am at 8GB and running smoother than ever.

SOLVED: This is solved but here is how. The day after I posted this, my PC kept freezing on me and I had to manually shut down, then it wouldn't boot up at all. It kept stating that there was a /dev/sdb3 contains a file system with errors, check forced. Inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found: Run gack manually w/o -a or -p options.

Then it kept asking to do a forced check of some sort and I had no idea what to do. Even looking it up on my phone I couldn't get to anything because it wouldn't let me get to anywhere on the PC. So I just plugged in a Memory Drive with Ventoy and some Distro's ISO's on it and tried from there. Did all the disk checks I could find and all had errors but nothing I understood. So I was able to save all my data on to an external Drive and them install a fresh copy of LMDE 5 and of course wiped all the HDD's clean. Now it is able to properly do a restart/reboot. Been over 48 hours and so far it is running smoothly. If it persists later on, I will thing it might be a HDD physical issue and will just replace with others I have and test it out.

Been using LMDE 4 and did the upgrade to 5 and my PC will not be able to reboot/restart. I select to restart and it does look like it is properly doing shut down items and my TV that I use as a monitor goes to blue screen since there is nothing on shutdown/reboot till the BIOS kicks in. Well, my PC just sits there with nothing on screen and nothing happening. I physically have to press and hold the Power button to shut it down or press the mini restart button I have. This started after LMDE 5 upgrade and doing all the updates. I decided to just do a full fresh wipe and clean re install, no biggie on my side anyways. The issue still happens. I did make sure of the checksum on the new LMDE 5 ISO I downloaded as well, all was good. Otherwise, my PC works really well besides the restart. Shut down is fine to. I only do restarts when I do updates and it requests to do so after installation.

Please help and thank you for your time and sorry for the long post.
