KDEconnect or something similar

Post by qisforc »

I want to request to port/integrate KDEconnect or something comparable (in)to Linux Mint & nemo.

Discovering this app has been what I would almost call "life changing" for me.

How it shows a pop up message when someone is calling you while automatically auto-pausing audio and video playback in firefox or the music player.. The shared cross-device clipboard, the ability to use your smartphone as a remote control when listening to music on your PC or watching a video... The ability to easily share files across all devices (okay, that is what Warpinator is doing now..), and so. much. more!

It just gives you the feel of living in an Apple-ecosystem with how it integrates your smartphone with your PC and I believe the community would adore an adoption of this application as well.

However, since it is qt-based, it does not work well with HiDPI screens, even with scaling and adopting the fonts. Some icons are large, some fonts are barely readable small. So a version of KDEconnect that integrates better into the cinnamon ecosystem would be lovable! :)

I know there's GSConnect, but I have zero experience with it.

Though I have not played with it much KDEconnect is cross DE and can be install on LM Cinnamon and will work. It can be installed via synaptic package manager by doing a search for kedconnect. Good luck.

I've tried it but it is only working with gnome shell.

See the last sentence of my post. It does work but it is pretty ugly. I'm no programmer but I would think that it should be pretty easy to port it to gtk/Cinnamon if only the visuals need to be adopted.

I used it for a while, also found it amazing UNTIL new phone messages started showing up again and again and again, no way to just press ignore. These were not new messages, but the same messages. I finally uninstalled it.

Hi qisforc,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

I don't have an HiDPI monitor, but KDE Connect works great in both my Linux Mint Cinnamon 20 and KDE Neon systems both are based on Ubuntu 20.04. People can adjust the notifications.

Some articles I read claim that the X11 display manager is where the problems lies with HiDPI and using Wayland would improve that.

FYI: Here are some articles that may help you with this. IF you find anything that works for you, please make a reply with that info.
