Timeshift is included with LM18.3, I've just been told by my mate. Worth adding that to this old thread I think. So it's "solved" now!

Thanks I had never heard of those!
Neither Timeshift nor Backintime seemed to have a gui. ( Is there a trick? Both had screenshots in Software Manager. ) When I run the former it appears to be terminal only, and the latter doesn't do anything.
