Please add official Ubuntu repository for Iranians

Post by travis82 »

Dear Clem

Official Ubuntu repository for Iranians is http://ir.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/. In all official Ubuntu flavors that is the repository which would be selected by default if you choose Iran as current location during system installation and is more up to date and more speedy than other Iranian repositories. Unfortunately, it doesn't exist in mint. Hence, users don't able to select it graphically. Please add it to Ubuntu repository list.

Regards

The package base mirrors are fetched from the file /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.mirrors. That file comes from the package python-apt-common. While it is installed on Linux Mint from the Linux Mint repositories, the same package from the Ubuntu package base also doesn't list the mirror you mention. Just my observation about your issue.

Thanks for the information

I took a look at Ubuntu.mirrors file in Ubuntu system. Strangely, that repository doesn't exist in this file either. I don't know how Ubuntu choose it during system installation.

The Ubuntu installer is called Ubiquity. Downloading the source for that from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... .63.tar.xz (found on page http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/xenial/ubiquity), I find the files d-i/source/choose-mirror/Mirrors.masterlist and d-i/source/choose-mirror/Mirrors.masterlist.ubuntu. Neither of them has your mirror listed verbatim. The latter file has a template line Site: ${CC}.archive.ubuntu.com which I think just inserts your country code before ".archive.ubuntu.com". How to translate this to Software Sources program I'm not sure.

@xenopeek
I highly appreciate your efforts to find the source of issue. At least I understood Adding that repository to Ubuntu.mirror file is better way than forcing Apt to use it.
