Cinnamon screen tearing fix

Post by MintBean » Sun Jun 11, 2017 12:47 pm

Apparently there is a known fix for the screen tearing a lot of us are seeing in Cinnamon and it has been fixed in Manjaro. I'm posting this quote from another user here in the hope that someone in the Mint dev team will notice. Is there any chance of seeing this in 18.2 or 18.3?

"It will be solved once they update xorg server to 1.19.x.
Manjaro has no screen tearing because it's using xorg 1.19.3. 1.19.x
finally fixes the tearing issue. Once mint finally updates to that it will
be fixed in mint too."

This is the one thing I personally need to see fixed before I can start recommending Mint to others once again.

For info, unfortunately Mint 18.2 doesn't bump x.org to 1.19.x series.

Although no help to you - it might be to others:

Mint isn't just Cinnamon, Mint MATE isn't miles away from Cinnamon, and in some peoples opinions, is better in some ways. There was tearing in MATE, but easily fixed by using the marco window manager and the compton composite manager.

Like I said, no help to you, but at least an alternative if you want to recommend Mint to others. (No idea whether XFCE or KDE suffer from tearing )
