Update Manager
Is it possible to modify Update Manager to warn users that a reboot is required when certain updates have been completed? As things stand, it appears that there is no need to do so. Even a generic message "some updates require a restart" would be, IMO, better that the current message "your system is up to date".

Re: Update Manager
Hmmm, I thought it did tell you when you needed to reboot. Perhaps I am mistaken. In any case, that's pretty rare that you need to reboot. But to answer your question, yes it is possible to modify Update Manager. The source code is readily available, and if you want to make modifications that the mint developers don't plan to do, you can always do it yourself.

Re: Update Manager
I run updates right after boot and have never rebooted unless directed to, Can't remember if that's ever been the case but in any case I've not had any issues.

Re: Update Manager
Good idea. Hopefully the Mint developers will implement it.

Re: Update Manager
So are you saying that if a reboot is necessary for an update to take effect no message is given stating that?Pjotr wrote:

Re: Update Manager
I think not, no. I haven't checked lately, but after installing a "kernel update" (i.e. a new kernel) I don't recall getting such a message.Schultz wrote:So are you saying that if a reboot is necessary for an update to take effect, no message is given stating that?Pjotr wrote:

Re: Update Manager
I agree, as long as it is a passive reminder. I usually reboot after installing critical system updates but these might not be recognized as such by some (esp. new) users.
