Thumbnailer Xfce

I noticed that there is no thumbnailer installed on Linux mint Xfce. I recommend adding Ffmpegthumbnailer so video thumbnails can be displayed by default which would help new users and those wondering why they don't see thumbnails for all their video files.

Hi crippled,
You have a good Idea, But you should post it in the community page found here under Ideas. The Devs that control such things are more likely to see it there.

All I was saying is that Developers normally do not look on the Forums, But do look at the community pages. So if you want them to see your idea it would be best to place it there. You will have to signup for an account on that page also. Good Luck.
Cheers!

All the mint editions ship with xplayer which provides a video thumbnailer called xplayer-video-thumbnailer. It's always worked out of the box for me as long as mint-meta-codecs is also checked at install time.

Thanks. But in all 3 cases that's not the case on my Desktop and Laptop as well as my brother's Desktop which the thumbnails didn't work out of the box which I had to install Ffmpegthumbnailer in order to make thumbnails to work.

That's odd and probably worthy of trouble-shooting.

Agreed. I'm on Xfce, dont have ffmpegthumbnailer installed, and still have video thumbs:

Code: Select all

scott@scott-HP ~ $ apt policy ffmpegthumbnailer
ffmpegthumbnailer:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.0.10-0.1
  Version table:
     2.0.10-0.1 500
        500 http://mirrors.advancedhosters.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages
scott@scott-HP ~ $ ls -l /usr/share/thumbnailers/
total 12
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 196 Aug 22 2016 gnome-font-viewer.thumbnailer
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1737 Nov 23 2017 xplayer.thumbnailer
