Are there no "Wine" entries at all in the list of "Other Applications ..."?

No.
I installed wine from the software manager, I guess that's the problem. Other users complain about the same issue.

I installed now wine from command following these steps and it works now!!:

Hi, fmeneuhe.

As your link to the used instruction is broken, let me ask you, whether perhaps this instruction was what you used:
How to install Wine ["Wine Is Not an Emulator"] on Linux Mint 20 / Ubuntu Linux 20.04

And that would be yet another thing for 99% of users to uninstall.

"Fact" it's not your or my estimation.
But For sure it's not 99% that would uninstall it.

It would be the first thing I would un-install. Do use some windows applications, but under crossover.

Well, some distros (Zorin OS, Makulu Lindoz) already do that; although I'm sceptical about the usefulness - there's no guarantee that your favourite Windows programs will run or at least run properly, so it feels more like trolling newbies (especially with Lindoz).

I manually installed PlayOnLinux on my system, which allows me to run some legacy apps quite well (albeit sometimes with minor quirks).
Therefore, when on Linux arrange your workflow around applications that are in the regular repos or at least available as flatpaks. Software for Windows should only play a (minor) part in your overall Linux workflow, if at all.

Wine is wonderful and I use it for all graphics and some audio stuff, but as you can see plenty of people don't use it. wine itself uses about 500MB in disk space, plus a few hundred MB for the "prefix" (Edit: 1.1G for a new, empty prefix!), and it's very easy to install for those who want it...easy IF they RTFM, er, Read the Fun Release Notes.

No way! Security issues many of us don't like. This is why most of us move from Micro$hit. It's a users choice/option. You can install anything you like at your own risk. But others shouldn't be forced to.

Correction. LanceM never said he used it, only that it gets updated.

Windows, while a fair game-launcher, sucks as an operating system. WINE, while a fair game-launcher when so configured by Valve via Proton, sucks as a Linux application.

Make WIneHQ and Darling emulators inbuilt apps in Mint when installing the OS

Post by Ayadh_Marikkar »

As you know that WineHQ is used in running MS-Win apps and Darling for MacOS apps right? So as these are useful when downloading such apps, I strongly recommend that these should be inbuilt into the OS in the next Mint version.
