Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
New to Mint after 5 years with Ubuntu. Needed to edit a large screenshot form my dual-monitor setup. Found the pre-installed "Drawing" app.
That app may good for very small jobs, but it doesn't have essential features like zooming, or scrollbars for large images. I couldn't figure out how to crop a portion of my large screenshot, and I've been programming computers since the 90s. Installed Pinta, and finished my job in a few seconds.
I think Pinta is still very easy to use, while being a much more decent choice. It's actively maintained too.

Re: Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
Pinta was actually evaluated in the past. It's not included for several reasons. The first being that I believe it's still based on Gtk2 so not HiDPI compatible and we've tried to move to things that support it for the default install. It also uses Mono. Something a lot of Linux users simply don't like. To top all that off, when I tested it, stability was a very serious issue.
When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.
Re: Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
Those are fair reasons, and it's a shame because Pinta kicks Drawing's butt.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Re: Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
I use Pinta regularly despite it's shortcomings, and I admit there are some. But, I don't really see any need to include Pinta in the default configuration. It's not difficult to install for anyone that might find it useful.
Pinta Pretty Please, or option to not bundle anything
I also ran into Pinta stability issues, but they were fixed, and haven't seen any crashes since I installed the latest version ~2 weeks ago.
Don't know about Mono.
Don't know about Mono.
It's not that easy to install either. Versions in repos are older (probably those with the crashes reported by JosephM). I ended up compiling it from source.Neil Edmond wrote: ⤴Wed Dec 23, 2020 9:37 am It's not difficult to install for anyone that might find it useful.

Re: Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
Well, I don't know what technical reasons keep pinta out of the iso, but I use it a lot. No problems at all with version 1.6
Re: Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
I have had problems with pinta crashing, used to be quite frequently, not so much now. Haven't been tracking updates on it. That was with LM19.0

Re: Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
I still use Pinta often and don't recall ever having it crash on me. It does, however, often take a really long time to switch between edit modes. I don't know what's up with that, but it's the one flaw I most often notice.

Bundle Pinta instead of Drawing
I have not used Pinta yet & it does not seem like
a good Tool for me if it sounds like it's that old.
My Experience with Drawing Compared To Paint:
PROS:
- Drawing Has Anti-Aliasing
- I Can Choose Circle Or Square Line Shapes
- Transparency Actually Works In Drawing
-->> Does Not Work In Paint
CONS:
- Select Image & Cut = Creates a Problem In Background
- Pen Tool = I Can't Figure Out Colors
- Paint Bucket = I Can't Find
- Resizing = The Large Dots Get In The Way, They should Be Smaller
-->> Resizing Non-Selected Images Is A Bit Annoying
- Drawing Tools = Not exactly as easy to draw with as it is on Windows
- Color Pallette = Doesn't Seem To Show 256 Colors With At Least My Displays
- Color Pallette Editor = Windows Indicates both 0-256 & Color Codes
(Drawing only Indicates Color Codes)
- There Is No Zoom #N% on Drawing
- Images & Such Have Long Wait Times When Using Undo & Redo
Correction: For Some Reason Colors & Paint Bucket Are Showing Now
Maybe There Was An Update?
So for me, it seems Drawing has it's PROS & CONS,
most of it is a CON, but it has some form of use here or
there, some better then Paint, while others not so good.
I've been using Drawing for a little while now. If I find a
better Tool, I will probably switch to the New Tool.
I've not used anything else for Drawing yet.
