here i found a script that could be merged into mint, which lets deactivate compiz. Maybe it could be modified so to make that when the game is closed, compiz is re started. It could be added as a launcher option: "Deactivate compiz when running this app" and a checkbox.

if you try to watch a 1080p movie with compiz, you loose performance. With this you could set up for example, that when you open totem, compiz is deactivated. Sorry yf you thought that it was only for games. Also yf you use blender or if you use programs that demand opengl, you would get very low performance if you have compiz activated
