Window tiling/scaling effect for just one application? (similar to Ctrl-Alt-Down Arrow hotkey)

Post by newlyminted7 »

Hi there,

Would it please be possible for the devs to build in a feature that is identical to the existing "tiling" (scaling?) effect for all currently open windows (when the Ctrl-Alt-Down Arrow hotkey is pressed), but for just one single application?

In other words, right now, Ctrl-Alt-Down Arrow hotkey shows a "scaled" overview of all currently open windows, but I'm requesting an identical feature, just for one single (the currently focused) application.

Basically, an easy way to view all open windows of one application (like a web browser, for example). And then we could hopefully map this to a hot corner or other keyboard hotkey shortcut.

I posted a thread in the newbie Forums about this here:

Thanks very much for your time and hard work!

If you are using xfce you can use zentile (if you install it). That will give you what you want. Mint doesn't really support windows tiling with its native desktops (Cinnamon, Mate, xfce). But Zentile may do what you want. See: https://github.com/blrsn/zentile

If you want something more robust, you might try installing and using i3wm with xfce (https://i3wm.org/). If you want to harmlessly read about tiling, I have published a lot on the topic here(it's all free), here's a place to start but rummage around if you want more:

Thanks, manyroads, although I'm not looking for "tiling", I'm looking for a "window selector" (I'm not really sure what words to use to refer to this feature) like when you press the Ctrl-Alt-Down Arrow hotkey. It temporarily lays out the windows so you can select one, it doesn't lay the windows out in a permanent layout, that's different. The idea is to make it quick and easy to select and switch to another window.
Also, I'm using Cinnamon.

Another nice option would be to see only the windows of all "non-minimized" applications. For example, if I have ten windows open and seven are minimized, this feature would show only the three non-minimized windows (in the same "Ctrl-Alt-Down Arrow"-style window selection view).

Also, is this really the best way to get requests to the Cinnamon devs?
