Linux Mint Netinstaller?

Post by Tolayon »

After having some good experience with the Debian Netinstaller, I wondered if something like that could'nt also be done for Linux Mint.
I know, unlike Debian or Ubuntu there is no usecase for Mint as a server (or is there?), but some might want to use the Mint-specific apps like the Software Installer and Update Manager with another DE than the three default ones. And installing such other desktop environment alongside an existing one can result in instability and confusion.

Therefore, a netinstaller offering not only Cinnamon, Mate and Xfce, but also most other DEs could be a great thing. Eventually, community projects offering ready-made ISOs with Linux Mint Budgie/ KDE/ LXQt etc. could arise. Linux Mint then would have the same kind of variety as Manjaro, with three official flavours and some community-based ones.

It almost certainly could be done. Are you offering to help the team by doing it?

Well, unfortunately I'm not that versed in tech, I'm more of a user than a developer or even just tinkerer.
I wouldn't see a netinstaller for Mint as an absolute and urgent must-have, just a nice additional "flavour" and therefore a suggestion that might get picked up some day or not.
