Point-releases for LinuxMint LTS-editions

Post by midas »

I always recommend a LinuxMint LTS-edition (now Isadora) to any-one who is installing LinuxMint for the very first time. Ever tried Elyssa? It is perhaps the most stable and reliable OS in the universe. Somehow I do think the LTS-releases are becoming a bit overshadowed by the 6 months-releases. Seems that everyone is infected by the release-fever and wanting the latest-greatest...we all know the downside of it, but that's another discussion I think.

Why wouldn't we (as Mint-devs and Mint-community as a whole) emphasize the LTS-editions just a little bit more and why not releasing 6 monthly's point-releases just to make installing the superstable version for newbies a lot more simpler? Just a suggestion...

Might be a good idea.

Probably sounds crazy, but I still have Elyssa installed and in use. I keep meaning to get around to installing Isadora, but I just haven't done it, and I can't say that I'm in a hurry to do so!

5 - Elyssa
5.1 - Felicia
5.2 - Gloria
5.3 - Helena
6 - Isadora

I'm guessing thats how it would go.

Stability comes from not having up to date packages. 18 months between software updates except for bugs would be impossible due to ubuntu's schedule.
