Brother Multifunction Ink Jets - More Out of The Box Support

Postby crankster » Wed Oct 13, 2010 6:02 pm

There is some support for brother multi-function ink jet printers in Mint 9 (copy, scan, fax & print) but not all, or even the majority. Brother provides Linux drivers for these printers on their site so I can get it 90% working with some terminal work so its not a major inconvenience for me but it would be great to have it work out of the box. I'm sure you guys have higher priority items on your list but I thought I would mention this just in case it might make it in to a future release .... or is this more of an Ubuntu item (Called Upstream?)?

Either way I am sticking with Mint. Its a great product and the Mint team does an outstanding job, THANK YOU!

My Brother model is mfc-490cw BTW I just started using Linux (dual boot with Vista) about 3 months ago. Tried several distros but none came close to Mint 9 IMO.

Thanks Again! :)

Thought I would reply to this old post of mine. Mint 13 has successfully recognized both my laser and inkjet as well as two scanners. I had problems with the printers being recognized in previous versions and had to consult the manufacturer.

Mint just keeps getting better and better.

Im really enjoying working with 13.

Great work!!
