Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NODATA'

Postby pubmania » Fri Feb 07, 2014 5:06 am

Hi,

I am getting the error below which is stopping the system from getting updates and even software manager is only showing a small partial list of softwares as compared to what it usually shows.

GPG error: http://archive.ubuntu.com saucy InRelease: Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NODATA' (does the network require authentication?)

I have tried several suggestion based on search results in google but none seem to be working. I have uninstalled sun java and have tried the command sudo apt-get update -o Debug::Acquire::http=true which still results in same issue. I have even removed the 2 webup8 ppa I added...nothing has helped.

My network connection is fine and I do not use any proxy.

I have just done a fresh install of Linux Mint 16 three days back, so in worst case I will do that once again but I would much rather get it resolved on this instance as I have spent quite some time setting things up.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: It was a false positive. I am still getting the error...:(

Only now it is changed to :

E: GPG error: http://extra.linuxmint.com petra InRelease: Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NODATA' (does the network require authentication?)

Looks like I found a solution here -- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/24061/+activity

Code: Select all

$ cd /var/lib/apt
$ sudo mv lists lists.old
$ sudo mkdir -p lists/partial
$ sudo apt-get update

This is due to cache inconsistencies and thus is not necessarily a bug in Ubuntu at all. But I hope the fine devs can find a way to better deal with broken proxies. This is a very visible issue, a large number of internet connections are behind proxies and the users cannot do anything about it.

Well I have done a fresh install as google was not getting me anywhere....after freshinstall I got the error "GPG error: http://archive.ubuntu.com saucy InRelease: Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NODATA' (does the network require authentication?)" once but software update continued and now there are no errors.

That fix worked for me Pubmania. thanks. I had no network issues just the repo stuff.
