This is how to upgrade today from Linux Mint 19 Tara, to the bèta of 19.1 Tessa:

Code: Select all

sudo sed -i 's/tara/tessa/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Reboot.

Tested successfully on two of my test rigs.

Reason for posting: premature upgrade how-to's always pop up long before the official upgrade path is being made available. So I thought it might be a good idea to forestall them with a how-to that warns clearly about the risks.
Thank you very much.

I did it, and it works (mostly), the only issue I have is desktop icons take 1 second or longer to open (much longer than in 19), and HTOP will not open at all from the desktop. I uninstalled and re-installed HTOP and still it will not open from the desktop icon. I have to open up the menu to get it to work.

Considering there's an official upgrade path now you should rather use that.

That is what I did, I did not early adopt, I used the official upgrade path.

I have upgraded mine and there were no problems at all, it's all working fine.
There isn't an official upgrade path, the only official option is a fresh install from a DVD image. The OP's tutorial works perfectly :D

as of 20 December, and less than 24hours after LM19.1 was released offically on the 19th, Clem announced How to upgrade to Linux Mint 19.1.

In that forum thread is link* to the "official upgrade path" (Clem being an "Official" to recognize informing us of this)

*link points to this page: https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3715

Hope this helps!

(gm10, I second the motion to close this thread, all it needed was update info pointing to official upgrade path;)
