How to "Dropbox" Without Dropbox
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to set up a simple but effective process that allows you to back up the files on your computer to another computer on your home network; a process that's private, customizable and not limited to just 2 measly Gbytes of storage! To initiate backing up a file or folder, all you have to do is drag it to a launcher that exists on your panel. As a result, the file or folder is copied to or updated on the backup server (in the exact same location as on your local computer). Likewise, to initiate checking whether the files in a folder are in-sync between the two computers, again, all you do is drag the folder to another launcher on your panel!

Re: How to "Dropbox" Without Dropbox
Interesting tutorial. I personally have an ownCloud installation which gives me all the functionality of Dropbox (and more) and the data is nice and safe at home.
For backups I use Deja-Dup which backs up to that same server daily. That server also rsyncs daily to ANOTHER server on my LAN. I know, I'm crazy.

Well, I wouldn't call ya crazy for having redundancy. Backups are serious business and being what some might call "crazy" or over-zealous is maybe just a sign that ya got stuff worth backing up.
