Freecom USB DVB-TV stick on Mint

Postby nick » Mon Apr 02, 2007 6:57 am

The Freecom USB-DVB TV stick is a very cheap way of getting
DVB TV, I had my two previous sticks working fine, But the latest failed to work.

lsusb gave:
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 14aa:0226 AVerMedia (again) or C&E
The firmware had changed!!!
The firmware for this model is dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03
This is no longer available on Linux
The only site I have found it on is:

(If it is no longer there email me and I will send it)

sudo cp dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03 /lib/firmware/$(uname -r)/
And follow instructions here; ... e&t=183297
Ignoring first two lines, start from:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
Reboot, and the light should appear on USB stick
Install Kaffeine, if not already in installed
and dvb-utils, open Kaffeine, choose DVB/Source
Auto, if not supported, turn over rollover bar and
choose you transmitter,

The "antenna" provided is not a lot of good but with
a normal indoor TV antennea I receive all free to air
DVB channels and radio stations, Kaffeine also gives you
a record facility :)
According to the forums the picture is much better than
in windoze. :) (but i would not know :) )

Just reinstalled under KDE Bianca

The line sudo cp dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03....
Should read sudo cp dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03.fw...

Alll references to dvb-usb-wt220u-fc03 shuld be

In the Ubuntu link ... e&t=183297

Where is says "make install" this should be done as root

i.e. sudo make install

Also with new kernel, disconnect usb stick after compiling, and then plug in after reboot.

hi there,

i'm having some problems getting the freecom dvb-t usb stick working, i plug it in, then check dmesg and can see this:

Code: Select all

[   76.071845] dvb-usb: found a 'WideView WT-220U PenType Receiver (Typhoon/Freecom)' in warm state.
[   76.071926] dvb-usb: will use the device's hardware PID filter (table count: 15).
[   76.073280] DVB: registering new adapter (WideView WT-220U PenType Receiver (Typhoon/Freecom))
[   76.073424] DVB: registering frontend 0 (WideView USB DVB-T)...
[   76.073897] input: IR-receiver inside an USB DVB receiver as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb5/5-3/5-3.4/input/input6
[   76.122756] dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 300 msecs.
[   76.122765] dvb-usb: WideView WT-220U PenType Receiver (Typhoon/Freecom) successfully initialized and connected.
[   78.415374] dvb-usb: recv bulk message failed: -110

any ideas what the last line means? I've followed some instructions from a few places, installed mythtv and faffed around a bit but still don't seem to be able to get any thing actually doing anything.

i followed some instructions on here, and some more from here

any help would be much appreciated :)
