Post by NChewie » Thu Sep 22, 2016 7:39 am

If you are using a live usb as an emergency access to a pc and need to decrypt a truecrypt or veracrypt container:

The discussion at https://github.com/veracrypt/VeraCrypt/issues/42 relates to using a Tails live usb. The same steps work for a Mint17.3 xfce live usb.

In summary: download (or have on a separate usb or on your main hdd) the latest version of veracrypt (which at the time of writing is in veracrypt-1.18-setup.tar.bz2).

Open it and extract the 32 bit version of the gui: veracrypt-1.18-setup-gui-x86 to your desktop.

On your desktop open a terminal window and then start the install:

Code: Select all

./veracrypt-1.18-setup-gui-x86
(note that it does not run by double clicking on it - it needs to be run from the terminal)

Choose to install and accept the licence terms.

To start the gui, in the terminal type

Code: Select all

veracrypt &
