How to install Seamonkey 2.40 on Mint

For those who like to use Seamonkey Internet Suite here's how to install on Mint 17.x and 18.x

How to install SeaMonkey 2.40 on 32 bit Linux systems:

$ wget http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... 40.tar.bz2

$ tar -xjvf seamonkey-2.40.tar.bz2

$ sudo rm -rf /opt/seamonkey

$ sudo cp -r seamonkey /opt/seamonkey

$ sudo ln -sf /opt/seamonkey/seamonkey /usr/bin/seamonkey


How to install SeaMonkey 2.40 on 64 bit Linux systems:

$ wget http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... 64.tar.bz2

$ tar -xjvf seamonkey-2.40.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2

$ sudo rm -rf /opt/seamonkey

$ sudo cp -r seamonkey /opt/seamonkey

$ sudo ln -sf /opt/seamonkey/seamonkey /usr/bin/seamonkey



Optional, to remove SeaMonkey 2.40, do:


$ sudo rm -rf /opt/seamonkey /usr/bin/seamonkey

(NOTE: in order to get menu Item in menu open your favorite text editor and copy and past the following file open the text editor in root using gksu in a teminal in mate it will xed)

Actions=NewWindow;NewPrivateWindow;

Then name it Seamonkey and save it to /usr/share/applications file.
