Fix for Missing Fonts/Letters in Cinnamon

Post by cottfcfan »

This has been a common problem mainly (but not only) affecting the Cinnamon desktop since the release of Mint 17, & usually affecting systems with integrated INTEL graphics drivers.
See the following for instances:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/584922/ ... ng-letters
https://superuser.com/questions/1107791 ... sappearing
But thanks to the ARCH wiki a fix seems to have been found. I have ran my Desktop for a week now with numerous suspend/resume cycles without the issue reoccurring.

Code: Select all

gksudo xed /etc/environment
then add the following line to the file:

Code: Select all

COGL_ATLAS_DEFAULT_BLIT_MODE=framebuffer
Save the file & reboot.
Hope this helps others with this issue.

Thanks. Working for the moment, but the acid test will be if it's still behaving in a couple of weeks time.

I will post result.

Well, it worked okay for a few weeks, but has recurred in the last few days. This time it's the letter 'l' which goes missing (previously it was 'n'.)

It doesn't affect any text within browser screens, however.
