- https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Table_of_contents >>> BE AWARE <<< Although this is a great source for finding lots of in depth and very well documented information about all kinds of stuff, these things might NOT work for Linux Mint exactly the same, and may even cause damage if just copy/pasted. It is however a good resource to find out what can be done, but it is advised that once you know what can be done, that you find the Linux Mint or Ubuntu way of using these methods.
If you can't figure it out yourself or you need more help, you can also ask in #linuxmint-help on SpotChat (Linux Mint) IRC network for help, just explain what you wanted to get done, and give them the link to the arch wiki website where you found a possible solution to your problem, that way our helpers could say if the method is safe to use in Mint or if you need an alternative method specially suited for Linux Mint / Ubuntu.

- If you're using Hexchat and are a regular user, you can register your nickname, so that only you can use it.
- With SASL set up, you'll automatically login to NickServ
- You can also enable SSL (secure connection) for IRC chat

Browser addons that help with privacy:
- uBlock origin (ads and tracking blocker) ready to use after installation
- umatrix (ads and tracking blocker) this one is more extreme than uBlock origin, and it will need extensive tweaking the first weeks as it will break the usability of quite some sites
- https everywhere
Anti-virus: clam-av (can be found in Software Manager)
(anti-virus is not really needed in Linux as long as you don't follow application/game installation guides from untrustworthy sources)
