Building Enlightenment desktop from Git source code

Post by batden »

Hi,

Fancy to try the latest Enlightenment desktop on your Linux Mint computer?
I've made a no muss, no fuss Bash script for downloading and installing Enlightenment 23 on Tara. Instructions:

https://github.com/batden/effectiv

Have fun!
Moderator Note:
  • Batden's script should be used by experienced Linux users only,
  • Be aware that the script will add a further desktop environment, Enlightenment 23, to your system.
  • Before executing the script, read Batden's instructions how to use the script carefully.
  • Make sure your system meets the pre-requisites.

New Linux Mint release! 8)

Please update effectiv.sh manually following these steps:

Open Terminal then
cd ~/effectiv/ and run git pull
cp effectiv.sh ~/.local/bin/
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/effectiv.sh
cd

Now type effectiv.sh to update your E23 desktop.

That's it.

And refer to the warnings above.

@ catweazel

Please explain why do we need such a Big Red Warning here? Seems overkill to me.
What's wrong?

Because, if you're going to author tutorials, you carry a moral obligation to warn inexperienced users of each and every pitfall. Failure to do so is irresponsible, and others will be left to clean up the mess caused by the tutorial writer.

Thank you for the script - I will give it a try with my new cinnamon install. Would you please describe the icon set and GTK theme elements you use in the screenshot - looks like a good match for the default e theme.

Hello batden,
I installed without problem E23 on Mint 19.02.
I installed extramenu, pinguins, and enventor without problem. on the other hand I can not compile eflete 1.19.1

Could you incorporate some module and program into your script?
Like you did on some of the E17 script? as python efl, eflete, enventor, rage, extramenu etc ....?
Your script is very effective to update E, so if everything was in it will be extra;)
Anyway, a huge, thank you for your work, and you're scripts.

Excuse me for my poor English, I'm French
