How To remove Java, LibreOffice and Tomboy

Post by tetrag » Tue Jul 02, 2019 11:31 pm

This removes all Java from Linux Mint 19.1 MATE

note: AYOR.
note: there are 3 ways of manupulating the software installed, namely apt (aka 'apt-get'), Synaptic 'Package Manager' and the Mint/Ubuntu 'Software Manager'.
note also: you will have to remove Tomboy Notes and LibreOffice in order to do this!

First remove Tomboy Notes using your Software manager.

then

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice*

sudo apt-get remove --purge openjdk*
to check;

Code: Select all

aptitude search '~i' | grep libreoffice

aptitude search '~i' | grep openjdk
you will see some fonts and other stuff left over from libreoffice;

- open Synaptic (Package Manager) and search:

Code: Select all

libreoffice
- remove completely any checked (green) libreoffice related packages remaining

- now also in synaptic search:

Code: Select all

libservlet3.1-java^8.5.30-1ubuntu1.4
- remove it
That will stop the 'servlet-api' upstream upgrade of the libservlet3.1 package from the Mint Update Manager.

lastly, advisable to clean the apt cache ;

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get clean
I usually then reboot

- Now refresh updates in Update Manager. All the java - related stuff and Libreoffice related updates will be gone.
