Libre Office 7: How to show icons in menus.

Post by cosmiclaser »

If you don't see any icons in LibreOffice menus, here's a solution.
This solution only works from version 7.0.3 and above. So also for 7.0.4, etc.

First, in LibreOffice go to the Tools menu than choose Options.

Then click the section LibreOffice:Advanced, click the Open Expert Configuration button:

In the Expert Configuration dialog, enter "iconsinmenu" in the search field and click Search.

Then, set the following:
- ShowIconsInMenues: true
- IsSystemIconsInMenus: false

Finally, restart LibreOffice.

Nice tip, it works for 6.1 and 6.4 too (just tried it in both those builds and it does work in Cinnamon on LMDE4)
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

If you are wondering why the menu icons were removed, I am almost positive it was because the Gnome UI Designers decided to not show icons in menus. It affects every GTK-based DE.

Here is a discussion about it. https://discourse.gnome.org/t/principle ... menus/4803

This is why it shows by default in KDE, also under Xfce Mint 19.3.

Gnome have to go a little bit slow in their path of soberfication and applefication. Icons menu are very intuitive and helpful for lot of users, it's very frustrating to not see them any more. I hope Cinnamon wouldn't follow them blindly..
