Nvidia Coolbits Overclocking

In case anyone here is interested in Overclocking their Nvidia graphics card here is how to do it. Personally I don't have a need for this at this time, but I thought it would be cool to have the option available in case I do at some point.

In order for CoolBits to appear in the nvidia-settings display utility, the X configuration needs to be tweaked slightly. Edit xorg.conf, and in the “Device” section for the Nvidia graphics card one additional line needs to be appended to the configuration. A line that reads Option "Coolbits" "1" should be added to the section. After restarting the computer the CoolBits page should appear in nvidia-settings.

Example:

Code: Select all

Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Device0"
    Driver         "nvidia"
    VendorName     "NVIDIA Corporation"
    BoardName      "GeForce 9600 GT"
    Option         "Coolbits"   "1"
EndSection
