How-To: Fix Lightning Task Color in Thunderbird

Post by vardomescro »

Situation: You've installed the Lightning addon for Thunderbird, have begun using `Tasks' and notice the tasks are illegibly grayed out until they have been checked, at which point they are black but struck through. Thinking this is backwards, you seek to reverse the coloring. This is how. Note: These instructions were made for Thunderbird 3.1.6 & Lightning 1.0b2 on LinuxMint Debian Edition. Your results may vary.

01) First you will need some utilities to open and close .jar files.

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude install zip unzip
02) now you need to navigate to the offending .jar. Note: The path on your machine might vary. You are looking for dir chrome file calendar.jar.

Code: Select all

cd ~/.thunderbird/9s39wcx5.default/extensions/{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}/chrome
03) now we make a back-up calendar.jar,

Code: Select all

sudo cp calendar.jar calendar.jar.bak
04) open calendar.jar,

Code: Select all

sudo unzip calendar.jar
05) navigate to the offending .css.

Code: Select all

cd skin/calendar
06) and open the .css in gedit.

Code: Select all

sudo gedit calendar-task-tree.css
07) The two .css headings below are from my edited file. If you make yours look like these, you will be on your way to having legible tasks.

Code: Select all

.calendar-task-tree > treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(future) {
    /*color: MenuText;*/
    color: black;
}
.calendar-task-tree > treechildren::-moz-tree-cell-text(completed) {
    text-decoration: line-through;
    font-style: italic;
    /*color: MenuText;*/
    color: gray;
}
08) close and save gedit.
09) navigate out of the previously jarred file.

Code: Select all

cd ../..
10) Remove the old, bad .jar and make a new, shiny .jar.

Code: Select all

sudo rm calendar.jar
sudo zip -r calendar.jar content/ skin/
11) Restart Thunderbird. Enjoy! :D

This was great and worked -- but now i have T-bird 8 and the latest Lightning. It seems that just after starting to sync with Google calendar, the tasks are back to grey and T-bird no longer has the same files as before...so i am stuck, not knowing how to fix this. (Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr................)

Any thoughts?
