Italian Translation for the guide

Post by fcole90 »

Hello, I would like to translate the Mint Guide to Italian since the newest is the old Isadora. How can I have the source of that? And wich software should I use for that?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for considering to do this. Awesome :) I've moved your post here, to the translations forum.

You can find the .odt sources files here: http://www.linuxmint.com/documentation/user-guide/. Start with the file "english_13.0.odt", and you can translate it using LibreOffice or another program that supports .odt files. LibreOffice will also allow you to publish the .odt file as a .pdf file. Once you have translated the document and are satisfied with your translation, please make the files available for download somewhere so we can add them to the Linux Mint website. Perhaps also post in the Italian forum (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=65, or the local community http://www.linuxmint-italia.org/index.php?action=forum) that you are going to do this, to perhaps get others involved for reviewing or helping with the translation or replacing the English screenshots with Italian screenshots.

In this forum you can find from the past few months other users that contributed a translated User Guide. Like from this post: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=105667

Thank you, I dowloaded the odt version but it tells me that many are protected from editing, like the index. How can I solve that?

The index is generated from the chapter and paragraph titles later in the document. To generate it anew, either do Tools > Update > Update All, on right click the index and select Update Index/Table. Any text block with the same gray background are probably also generated text; check with right click if you have the option to Update Index/Table.

Edit: if you are using LibreOffice in Italian, I hope the translation holds up. Not sure how these menu items would be called in Italian :)

Hi, I'm going to complete my Mint Maya Mate guide translation. I'll try to share my job in the next days. I can't obtain some pictures in the installation section, only.
Bye
