How to translate firefox.desktop string "Open a New Private Window"

Post by scootergrisen »

firefox.desktop have:

Code: Select all

Name=Open a New Private Window
How/where do i add translations for this?

It seems sometimes software developers don't like to have strings for .desktop files the same place as the rest of the translations.

If you want to contribute to the translation project it is a good place to strart:
Linux Mint Translation Guide
...otherwise it is unclear what are you talking about:

If you have not edited the launcher or moved it to another location, it will be in (real name of the launcher, do not consider the translated name that appears in the user interface):
/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

You can edit it with a text editor, but the respective language pack must be installed completely.

I wanted to add translation upstream so all users can see it not just locally on one computer.

It seems sometimes software developers don't like to have strings for .desktop files the same place as the rest of the translations.
1 - There is no "same place as the rest of the translations", they're all over the place in dozens of directories.
2 - The translations for desktop files are in the .desktop files, e.g.

ca.desrt.dconf-editor.desktop:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Name[af]=dconf Redigeerder
Name[an]=Editor de dconf
...
Name=dconf Editor

Yes but i am not looking to translate it just on my computer.

I want to translate it like the "officical" place if such a place exists.

Like if i want to translate VLC maybe i go to Transifex.

So i want to know where this strings is translated.
