Dual boot Windows 8.1 & Linux - can not start Windows

Post by scarface » Sun Jul 16, 2017 1:50 pm

Hey guys,

as first I installed Windows, everything was working fine. Then I went for installing Linux Mint 17.2 alongside Windows. Now, when I start my computer, grub is shown. When I select Linux Mint to boot, it boots fine, no problems. But when I choose to boot Windows, it just restarts me grub.

I think very important fact to mention is that I follow this tutorial: https://www.tecmint.com/install-linux-m ... uefi-mode/
When you look at the point 12, the guys says: "After finishing creating the partition layout, select Windows Boot Manager as the device for installing the Grub boot loader...". I exactly followed this instruction and I think this was a trigger of my problem.

@ scarface

I think LM 17.x does not yet fully support UEFI/GPT, ,,,,,,,
....... To simplify matters for UEFI computers, maybe you should install LM 18.x alongside Windows.

Or maybe you had installed LM 17.2 in Legacy/BIOS mode while Windows is in UEFI mode, eg by not booting the Live LM 17.2 USB in UEFI mode.
