Graphic card problem after kernel actualization

Post by Juanmac »

Hi, I’m having problems when rebooting after installing the last kernel actualization the "mesa" actualization of openGL. The computer reboots but no image appears after the LM logo, and I know LM is running because of the login sound. i've tried only installing the kernel actualization hopping it would be exclusively a graphic card problem, but the same issue came across.
The Nvidia or AMD sticky may help, i know, but i do not where to start, and honestly i am tired of reinstalling LM after trying to install the kernel and i do not know how important is this actualization anyway. I will appreciate your help.

You can boot in recovery mode and boot in the last working kernel.

If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help.

LM 18.3 with kernel 4.10 should be able to run on your quite-new Dell computer. Correct.? But kernel 4.13 is optimum for your computer that has the Intel Kabylake processor.
....... You have an Intel HD 620 graphics card, not the "problematic" Nvidia or AMD graphics card.

From a bootable and installed LM 18.3 system, to install kernel 4.13.24, go to >Update Manager >View >Linux kernels >4.13.24 >Install >Reboot. See if your LM system is still stable after reboot.
....... LM will reboot to the newest kernel by default. In this case, it's 4.13.24. If stable, you may then repeat the process and install kernel 4.13.37.

Fyi, Linux kernel 4.13.37 has the Meltdown & Spectre patches while 4.13.24 does not.

4.13.21 did not work neither, same result, no image after LM logo, i had to boot from my last kernel and uninstall it. Do i have to resign to the actualization or i can try anything else?

Looks like you are experimenting with very new features which is beyond my paygrade ... eg https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= ... lkan&num=1 (21 Jan 2018 - Intel OpenGL vs. Vulkan Performance With Mesa 18.0)
