Long boot after change of SATA port

Post by kuglagier »

Hi everyone!

I got a new SSD drive, connected it to the MB and installed LM20 Cinnamon on it. Everything worked fine. Sometime later I realised that I connected the SSD to a 3Gb SATA port instead of the 6Gb, so I moved it. Since then the boot of LM takes much longer. The animated LM logo is displayed for a couple of minutes before the login screen appears. What can I do to bring it back to the fast boot?

Many thanks in advance.
Kug.

There is probably an fstab issue. The UUID of your drive must be wrong in /etc/fstab so it tries to mount for about 90 seconds then time-outs.

This is just a guess of course, but I saw it 2-3 times just this week on the forum.

Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxpmrz
Click </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply
and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the
command between the code markers like this:
Results
.

Do the same for each one of the commands below (one at a time):

Code: Select all

blkid
lsblk
cat /etc/fstab
systemd-analyze
systemd-analyze blame
systemd-analyze critical-chain
cat /var/log/boot.log
dmesg --level=err

Re: Long boot after change of SATA port

Yup...

Code: Select all

└─sysinit.target @1min 30.328s
                          └─systemd-timesyncd.service @869ms +94ms
There is a 1min30s jump here that's "invisible".

Code: Select all

# swap was on /dev/sdb6 during installation
UUID=34d8263b-5e86-4933-a41d-43a71fbfc263 none            swap    sw              0       0
This UUID does not show up in blkid. That might be the issue.

Open a Terminal and run

Code: Select all

xed admin:///etc/fstab
Change the line

Code: Select all

UUID=34d8263b-5e86-4933-a41d-43a71fbfc263 none            swap    sw              0       0
to

Code: Select all

#UUID=34d8263b-5e86-4933-a41d-43a71fbfc263 none swap sw 0 0
save file, exit.

Then on Terminal again run sudo update-grub, reboot.
Run systemd-analyze again.

Yes, that worked! Man, you're great! Many thanks for your help! :D :D :D

system-analyze:

Code: Select all

Startup finished in 3.700s (kernel) + 1.543s (userspace) = 5.244s
graphical.target reached after 1.534s in userspace
