[SOLVED] Forgot user password

Post by AntarcticMagpie »

Hi kato/ anyone else passing by,

Sorry to bump an old topic (yes, I've read the rules) but I have the same issue, in that I stupidly neglected to write down my new admin user password.
I can log in via a standard user account, however all of my work is on the admin's desktop.

Hello, AntarcticMagpie.

Split off from a dead thread, which was started, but never followed up by the thread starter.
There is no point in reviving such a thread. Specifically not for the "Forgot user password" problem, which has been reported and resolved really often. I do not know why you picked one of the few threads about this problem without a solution. Anyway.
Kindly use the forum search. E.g.: forgot user password
Alternatively, follow the instruction, to which JoeFootball points in his post below.

Regards,
Karl

Thanks Karl and JoeFootball,
I did try to search the forums- that was the only thread I found related (could be attributed to my searching incompetence).

I'll have a look through the links you two have posted, and see how to resolve the issue.

Thank you again :)

No, one of the weak aspects of the forum software - its search facilities. We all have a moan about it from time to time.

Thanks Karl, Joe, and Andy
Currently poring over the link(s) Joe sent through, very helpful.
Also it's nice to know the search doesn't work all the time for everyone, not just me, ha!

In regards to the original question, it's all sorted.
I'll stick the beginner forums for now, and learn as much as possible :)

Thanks again

Enter a search in the Mint Forums in your browser's search mask like this: site:forums.linuxmint.com (and your question)
and save it as a bookmark.

This way it is also possible to search the Mint Forums for terms that have only two or three letters - like CD, VM, VGA, dpi and the like.
