SOLVED lm20.3 Cinn: Grub menu errors

Post by sadhu »

I was trying to update the kernels on my lm20.3 laptop.

The grub boot menu shows LM20.1, not the installed 20.3; grub advanced shows these kernels: 5.4.0-70, -67, and -58. The update manager and synaptic both show 5.4.0-70, -124, and 5.15.0.46 as being installed.

I run update-grub:

Code: Select all

$ sudo update-grub
Sourcing file `/etc/default/grub'
Sourcing file `/etc/default/grub.d/50_linuxmint.cfg'
Sourcing file `/etc/default/grub.d/init-select.cfg'
Generating grub configuration file ...

Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-5.15.0-46-generic

/dev/sdb: open failed: No medium found
Found Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS (20.04) on /dev/sda6
done
But the grub boot menu is unchanged.

What do I need to do in order for grub to show lm20.3, to boot into kernel 5.15.0-46 by default, and show the proper older kernels?

Thank you

It looks like Ubuntu 20.04.2 is controlling booting. If you boot in that Ubuntu, run sudo update-grub and reboot, do you get correct boot options?

To get LM 20.3 to control booting you should reinstall Grub. See this.

YEP!

Problem solved.

Thank you very much. I'm so glad I didn't have to try to reinstall grub.
