[SOLVED] Problem installing Linux mint 21 Vannesa on M2 PCIe ssd

Post by Blindmanbilly »

I have been using Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 And See I must update soon. I have a new computer (to me) with Windows 10 on a ssd SATA drive.
I added a M@ PCIe ssd card and then started to install Linux Mint Cinnamon.. Now I am stuck, In need of help.
When I boot from a usb with Mint 21 the system works well until I start the install. In the installation type window I get the error message "No Root File System"

Hello.
I get the error message "No Root File System"
It is not unusual to get that message if you have a new disk. Search for 2. Manually setting up the partition layout for Ubuntu at this link:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/343268/ ... stallation
and see if that helps you.

Check also the settings in BIOS. I've not run across this on Lenovo systems but it could help in your case. Sometimes the disk is set to RAID mode in BIOS, even though there is only one disk. Pretty sure this is done just to prevent installing non-winblows OS. Change to AHCI for it to be detected by the installer.

Thank you for the info but I still cannot get 21 to install. Cannot install on Free space partition in Windows Hard Drive or the M2 PCIe.
Do you have any other suggestions to get past the error message of No root file sys?
