[Solved] Kernel Panic on Boot with 5.15.0-56

Post by S4qFBxkFFg »

Every time I try to boot kernel 5.15.0-56 I get the error in the linked picture:
https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/pyq9cnwod42.jpg

I think the problematic part is:

Code: Select all

VFS: Cannot open root device "nvme0n1p2" or unknown-block(0,0): error -6

Before I do anything to fix it (such as https://askubuntu.com/questions/41930/k ... n-block0-0 ), I'd like to see if anyone here has encountered this yet, specifically on Mint.

Kernel 5.15.0-52 is unaffected (5.15.0-53 fails to boot for a different reason).

That looks to be a likely issue.

Your system has a 5000 series Ryzen and it is likely to run better with a newer kernel. Right now, there are two newer kernels available. See if a newer one helps. I suggest trying the 5.17-oem first because a few people (not all) have mentioned running into sound issues with the 6.0-oem.

You can install the latest 5.17-oem kernel with

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-oem-22.04
and reboot. If there are any errors in the output, post them here because they might be a clue as to why the -56 kernel did not work on your system.

You can install the latest 6.0-oem kernel with

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-oem-22.04b
and reboot.

Thank you, that worked. I can't see anything obvious that indicates errors in /var/log/dmesg , but I wouldn't necessarily know what to expect there.

Good to hear it worked. I meant errors showing on the terminal screen when you ran the command.
