Ok, so after reading and reading, I'm wondering, is it worth it for me to try to use RAID 0 on my Sil 3112A SATA RAID controller at all? Should I just use the 2 drives independently for different system partitions?

In one of my earlier posts I put a link up for a how-to for a software/hardware assisted RAID install, (maybe that is an acceptable term). It is long and complicated. It is not an easy task to undertake unless you are pretty familiar with Linux and the CLI.

Even after you have successfully done this I wouldn't expect much of an improvement in your overall system speed in normal everyday uses.

As you can see in this thread, others seem to have a different opinion. My experience does not support the value gained versus the risks taken to run software/hardware assisted RAID.

My advice would be to use the drives as discrete units instead of trying to do software/hardware assisted RAID.

The decision, of course, is yours. But you asked and that would be my recommendation. :-)

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and each time expecting a different result.
